WHATLEY, Virginia January 25, 1923 - February 3, 2014 Virginia Katherine Tillman Whatley, age 91, of Atlanta, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8th, 2014 at 11 am at Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Virginia T. Whatley was born in Atlanta, GA, January 25, 1923. Virginia attended Oglethorpe Elementary and the Atlanta University Laboratory High School. She was a graduate of Spelman College and Atlanta University, she also conducted postgraduate work at the University of Iowa. During World War II, she worked in Washington, DC as part of the civilian effort. In 1944, Virginia married her soul mate Charles R. Whatley, a Morehouse College graduate from Milner, Georgia and a U.S. Army captain based in New Jersey. Married 52 years, they had three children: Patricia, Kay (deceased) and Charles, Jr. She is survived by her children: Pat and Charles Jr., five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, many special nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives and close friends.
