Family-Placed Death Notice

DORAN, William William Edgar Doran, 54, of Rutledge/Tucker, Georgia, died December 7, 2012. Bill was born on May 18, 1958 in Montgomery, AL. The son of the late Lt. Col. James T. Doran and Mary Ruth Doran. He grew up throughout the country on Air Force bases and attended Henderson High School in Chamblee GA. In 1983, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Landscape Architecture. At the University, and while a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, he met and subsequently married ("way up") to the former Melanie Kathryn Cole. He worked in Charleston, SC and Atlanta, GA as a Landscape Architect for 29 years and was a co-partner in the Decatur, GA firm of Doran & Karwoski with Mary Karwoski for 22 years, working throughout the eastern US. Most recently, he worked in Washington, DC for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) as a Hydroelectric Land Planner. He enjoyed working with his hands, cooking, painting, hunting with friends and his three sons, and working on his small farm in Rutledge. He is survived by his beloved wife Melanie, sons Thomas 27 (wife Kayla), Michael 25 (wife Jessica), and John (23), Mother Ruth, older brother John (wife Bonnie) of Denver, CO, younger brother Thomas (wife Kelley, son Bill and daughter Ashley) of Norcross, GA, parents-in-law John and Charlie Ruth Cole, sister-in-law Laura Cole, niece Isabella Young of Oxford, Mississippi, and niece Sara Groover Bolton. A time of visitation for friends and family will be Saturday from 6 until 8 pm at the Lilburn-Tucker Chapel of Bill Head Funeral Home, 6101 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA 30084 (770) 564-2726. A church service will be held Monday, December 10, 2012, at 11 am at the family's church, Cornerstone Bible Church, 869 Cole Drive, Lilburn, GA 30047 and officiated by Bill's lifelong Pastor, Douglas McIntosh. He will then be buried, in a family ceremony, within Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to the , 1684 Barnett-Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605.
