AUGUSTA, Ga. - Carl Wayne Gledhill, 71, husband of Mrs. Linda Thompson Gledhill for 50 years, entered peacefully into rest on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Doctors Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church at 11:00 AM with The Reverend Scott Winchel. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Additional survivors include his mother, Ruth Evelyn Gledhill; four daughters, Susan Woo (Darren) of Evans, GA , Jennie Miller (George) of Harlem, GA, Elizabeth Wessling (Eric) Evans, GA, Katy Christensen (Mike) Grovetown, GA; one brother, Richard A. Gledhill (Marge) Bradenton, FL; one sister Kathy Rice (Mike) Gainesville, FL; eleven grandchildren, Michelle Miller, Ashleigh Miller, Bradley Miller, Zach Woo, Blake Miller, Nick Woo, Jacob Woo, Claire Miller, Andrew Woo, Thomas Woo, Ian Wessling; and one great grandchild on the way Ryleigh Anne. He is preceded in death by his father, the late Mr. Clair Melvin Gledhill, and a granddaughter, Miss Emma Grace Gledhill Miller. A native of Nunda, NY, Carl graduated from the Citadel in Charleston, SC. He then went on to earn his Masters Degree from Tulane University, New Orleans, LA. Carl then joined the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War, where he rose to the rank of Captain. He earned the Bronze Star, The Army Commendation Medal, and The Air Medal. He was also was an aid de camp to General Ploger. Carl retired from McDermont, Inc & SRS Bechtel. He was a loving Husband, Father, and Paw Paw and will be greatly missed. The family will graciously receive flowers or if so desired, memorials may be made to St. Mary on the Hill Catholic School, 1420 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, Georgia 30904. A Vigil will be held at 5:00 PM in the Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. The family will receive friends after the Vigil at the funeral home until 7:00 PM.
