AUGUSTA, Ga. - Charles William Wylds, 84, husband of 61years to Nova Cunningham Wylds, entered into rest Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Summerville Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Minister Barry Clanton officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Wylds, son of the late William Albert and Dorothy Beasley Wylds, was born in Augusta, and retired from SCE&G as a chemist after 35 years of service. He served in UDT Special Forces with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. For his service, he was awarded a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart. He was a member of First Christian Church and was a charter member of Fleming Christian Church, where he was an ordained elder. He was the first male volunteer at the Women s Board at University Hospital. He was an honorary member of the Tubman High School Alumni Association. He became a drummer and soloist in a band at the age of 13 and later an accomplished soloist in many churches. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert A. Wylds, Sr. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Charles Dwayne Wylds and his wife, Marla Andrews Wylds, of Lawrenceville, GA; his daughters, Linda Wylds Easler and her husband, Rick G. Easler, of Summerville, SC, and Cheryl Wylds Reed, and her husband, Steven Kenneth Reed, of Kennesaw, GA; his grandchildren, Ashley E. Wing (James), Travis J. Easler (Jennifer), Daniel Steven Reed (Cindel), David Kenneth Reed, Brian Thompson Reed, Bailey Allison Reed, and Charles Elliot Wylds; and his great grandchildren, Michael, Payton, Jordan, Blake, and Scarlet; nephew Robert Allan Wylds , Jr. Pallbearers will be Daniel Reed, David Reed, Bryan Reed, Elliot Wylds, Travis Easler, Larry Wylds, Alan Wylds, and Mark Inglett. If so desired memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 629 Greene Street, Augusta, GA 30901; or to Crossroads Community Church, 505 Gahagan Rd, Summerville, SC 29485.
