AUGUSTA, Ga. - Went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, August 13, 2014, Dewey A. Jones, 87, beloved husband of Mrs. Sloane Crawford. Dewey was a member and elder of Druid Park Bible Church. He was the Founder of Operation Salvation. Mr. Jones served in the United States Navy for 30 years and was a veteran of the World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was an avid fisherman and loved flying. Mr. Jones built and maintained flight simulators. He was a loving husband, a great father, grandfather and great grandfather. Family members in addition to his wife include son and daughter-in-law: Dewey Michael and Julie Jones of Martinez; daughter: Micki Jones of Hilton Head Island, SC, daughter and son-in-law: Melody and Fred Thomas of Brevard, NC; brother: Theodore Jones; sisters: Bettye Beard and Sarah Lawson; grandchildren Melissa Christensen, Matthew Christensen, Michael Christensen, Brad Jones, Robbie Jennings and Amanda Jennings; and two great grandchildren. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mrs. Katherine "Kitty" Jones. A funeral service will be Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 1:30 P.M. in the Chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Robert "Bobby" Lehn officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SIM USA at PO Box 7900, Charlotte, NC 28241 or to The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministries, Inc. at PO Box 708, Bellmawr, NJ 08099.
