EVANS, Ga. - Entered into rest November 26, 2012, Rev. Gerald Judson Smith, PhD, 71, husband of Rebecca W. Smith. Mr. Smith was a native of Marshallville, GA and was a resident of Columbia County since 1977. He was a graduate of Andrew College, received a bachelor's degree in History at LaGrange College, a Masters degree in Divinity at Emory University, and also a PhD in English Literature at University of Georgia. He was a retired Methodist Minister and also retired from Paine College Chair of Humanities Division from 1977-2001. Mr. Smith was an author and lecturer. Family members in addition to his wife include son: Gerald Judson Smith, Jr. and wife Ginger; daughter: Alicia Joy Smith; brother: Milton Smith and wife Doris; sisters: Sybil Brown and husband George, Sheryl McDaniel and husband William; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Jerry Poole officiating. Entombment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
