NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Funeral Services for Dr. Henry G. Mealing, Jr., 81, who entered into rest April 14, 2013, will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Rev. Tom Kalliokoski officiating. Private family interment will be held in Sunset Hill Cemetery with Veterans Honors. Dr. Mealing was a life-long resident of North Augusta and was of the Baptist Faith. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, a graduate of the University of Georgia and the Medical University of South Carolina. Upon graduation from the University of Georgia, he worked for E.I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant as a Health Physicist before entering medical school. After completing medical school he served his residency at the Medical College of Georgia, where he was Chief Resident, before joining the faculty. Dr. Mealing was a Full Professor of Medicine in the Department of Rheumatology at the Medical College of Georgia for over 30 years. He served as past president of the Georgia Society of Rheumatology and continued to attend their scientific meetings. Dr. Mealing was a member of AOA Medical Honor Society, the Richmond County Journal Club and was a founding member of the Sydenstriker Society, where he established the Glover Chair in honor of his mother. Dr. Mealing was a revered physician among his colleagues and students providing continuing education for practicing physicians. Survivors include a son, Henry Mealing, III (Amy), Evans, GA; two daughters, Katherine M. Hunt (Tony), Charlotte, NC and Mary Alice Bell, North Augusta, SC; his former wife and life-long friend, Geraldine R. Mealing, North Augusta; two sisters, Mary Diddy Thompson, North Augusta, SC and Patricia Setzer (Hugh), Columbia, SC; six grandchildren, Katie Hunt, Michael Hunt (Rachel), Christopher Hunt (Jennifer), Daniel Mealing, Samantha Mealing and Allison Alli Bell; one great-grandchild, Jane Hunt. Pallbearers will be grandsons. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Tuesday evening from 5 until 7.
