MACCLENNY, Fla. - Jim Sands, age 84, passed away at home March 12, 2014 in Macclenny, Florida. He was born October 3, 1929 to the late James Sands and Fannie Crawford Sands in Charlton County, Georgia. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Kathryn Louise Burnett Sands; daughter Kathryn Lynn Sands Boone; sister Sadie Sands Blair; brothers John Newton; Tiney Frank and Cleon Sands. He is survived by wife Margaret Jones Sands; son Keith David Sands and wife Connie Haucke Sands; daughter Jeri Michele Sands Segers and husband Pierre Segers; brothers Henry (Betty) Sands; Ira (Cecelia) Sands and sister Mildred (NL) Long. Calling the Georgia Bend home Jim graduated from high school and worked for the nearby farming and forestry operations. Married in 1951, Jim and Louise were soon blessed with Kathy, their first born. After Jim served a military obligation in Fort Campbell, Kentucky they returned to Florida and together attended the University of Florida. Following graduation from UF Jim began a lifelong career in Forestry Management with Continental Can Company (CCC) in Florida; Georgia and South Carolina. With accepting company position changes Jim relocated his family from South Carolina to Savannah and finally Augusta, Georgia where he retired with Federal Paper Board Company. Following both of their retirements Jim and Louise relocated to Florida. In retirement Jim enjoyed visiting family and friends; gardening and his Florida Gators. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Northeast Florida Community Hospice. We will forever remember your compassion and care for Jim. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Private graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Macclenny, FL Pallbearers Henry Sands; Ira Sands; Rick Moran; Pierre Segers; Theron Sands; Kelvin Sands; David Sands and Trey Connor.
