MARTINEZ, Ga. - Mrs. Marianne Hurley, 72, of Martinez, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012 at her residence. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1pm at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Fort Gordon. Born in Straubing, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Johann Oltmeier and Elfredia Muller. She lived in various cities and countries before moving to Martinez in 1978. She retired after 23 years as a special education bus driver for Columbia County and was a volunteer for the Special Olympics. She was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Michael's' Catholic Church and a longtime member of the German Friendship Club. She loved to cook, garden flowers, and shop. Her most cherished moments were spent with her family. She was a long time active member of the German Friendship Club of Augusta, GA. She is survived by her husband, James Hurley, children, John (Tammy) Hurley, Evans, GA; Sylvia (Douglas) Markle, Waynesboro, GA; Jamie (Leigh Ann) Hurley, Smyrna, GA; brother, Siegfried Gissler, grandchildren, Blake Hurley, Elizabeth Hurley, Caroline Hurley, and Katherine Hurley. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Catholic Social Services, 811 12th Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
