THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Virginia Wilson Goodson, 59, beloved wife of Mr. Curl Chalker, entered into rest Sunday, August 3, at her residence. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, at Thomson First United Methodist Church with the Reverends John Barnes and Charles Broome officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. A native of McDuffie County, Mrs. Goodson was proud of her heritage and to be an eighth generation member of her family of the farm which was granted in 1770. She graduated from Thomson High School with honors in 1973. She went on to further her education at the university of Georgia graduating magna cum laude in 1977. While at UGA, she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Mrs. Goodson was presented at the Augusta Symphony Guild Cotillion in 1974. Mrs. Goodson will always be remembered for her love of basketball, golf and tennis. She excelled in both basketball and tennis during high school reaching the state level play-offs several times. She went on to play tennis for the University of Georgia. Her love of golf started at a very early age and her proudest moment was a round of golf at the Augusta National Golf Club with Mr. Boone Knox. A previous member of the Belle Meade Hunt, Mrs. Goodson excelled in horsemanship with passport and always had a love for animals. She became associated with the family owned Wilson Company in 1977. Distinguishing herself as both a realtor and insurance agent, Mrs. Goodson became an owner in 1982. She was a member of the Classic South Board of Realtors and the Greater Augusta Association of Realtors. During her successful career, she achieved membership in the Circle of Excellence multiple times and in 2004 was selected by the readers of the McDuffie Progress as Best Sales Person. Mrs. Goodson was preceded in death by her mother Virginia Stewart Wilson, her father Robert N. Wilson, and her brother Stewart Allen Wilson. Survivors include her husband, Curl Chalker; a daughter, Virginia Goodson Smith (Chase) of Killen, Alabama; a brother, Bob Wilson, Jr. (Cindy); a sister-in-law Pat Wilson, all of Thomson; three grandchildren, Lily, Cameron and Harper Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Marion Culpepper, Bill Dozier, Jay Smith, Steven Tondee, John Graham, and Dr. Robert Wilson III.
