Kristina Oshlo Speece August 30, 1949 - August 18, 2013 Kristina Oshlo Speece, 63, of Bakersfield, CA passed peacefully at home Sunday, August 18, 2013, surrounded by her family after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was the beloved wife of Timothy Speece, her husband of 31 years, and an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Born August 30, 1949 in Charleston, West Virginia and raised in Dallas, TX, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Helene (Garst) Oshlo. Kristina graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's in primary education, a master's in psychology from the University of Oklahoma, and a post graduate degree in school psychology from Oklahoma State University. She was a guidance counselor for 12 years in Norman, Oklahoma. She retired last month after 20 years as a school psychologist with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. Kristina had a passion for life, people, and giving. While her spirit will always be with us, her presence will be greatly missed. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Kymberly Escobar, husband William Cook and their daughter Sloane of Arlington, VA; Dana Clanton Turman, husband Travis Turman and their son Andrew of Mansfield, TX; Lindsay Speece McPherson, husband Keaton McPherson and their son Kohen of Bakersfield, CA, and Whitney Speece of Richmond, VA. By her brother, Eric ("Rick") Oshlo, wife Pam Stevens Oshlo and their daughters Lisa Oshlo and Laura Oshlo Burleson of Breckinridge, CO; and sister in law Katie Speece McKinney, husband Steve and their daughter Kristin McKinney Alva of San Antonio, TX. A celebration of Kristina's life will be held at the Oaks Community Church located at 10200 Campus Park Drive Bakersfield, CA 93311 on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 10:00 am.
