Lenvel "Danny" Matthews December 3, 1943 - February 24, 2013 Danny Matthews was born and raised in Bakersfield. In 1961 he joined the Navy which moved him to San Diego, Hawaii, Long Beach, and Alemeda. He served on a submarine and the USS Sperry. During the Vietnam War, Danny was aboard the USS Kearsarge CVS-33 as a Helmsman. He loved the Navy and proudly served until 1968. During his Navy career he met and married his "Baby" Malena Watt in 1963. He is survived by: his loving wife; daughters, Melissa Kelley and Dawn Turner; son, Lance Matthews; seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Preceding him in death is his daughter, Candis Matthews. The viewing will be held at Mission Family Mortuary on March 4th from 10a.m.-5p.m. Funeral residing at Bakersfield National Cemetery on March 5, 2013 at 10:45am.
