Travis M. Jim Camp Obituary
Travis M. (Jim) Camp 1930 - 2013 Jim Camp, age 82, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Wednesday, June 26th, 2013. He was born on September 29th, 1930 in Newcastle, Oklahoma to James B. and Willie Camp. Upon graduating High School in 1948, Jim enlisted into a distinguished and honorable military career totaling 22 years during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served in both the U.S. Navy (aboard the USS Iowa) and also in the U.S. Air Force. While stationed in Japan, he met and married the "catch of his life". A loyal husband, he loved her more than life itself. Following military retirement in 1971, he also completed 18 years of dedicated service with the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District. A good man; hard work, integrity, generosity and humor were some of his traits. Jim's favorite things included: Fishing, hunting, joking around and making and repairing fishing rods and reels. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Lou and brother Ted; he's lovingly remembered by his wife Katy, brother Carlton, sister Marie, son Bobby, daughter Theresa, and many other family members and friends. Special thanks to Larry Yokoyama, M.D., Ray Mish and also the staff at the Bakersfield Heart Hospital, Emeritus of Bakersfield and Hoffmann Hospice for their excellent care, compassion and support. Chapel service to be held Friday, July 5th at 1030, Mission Family Mortuary. Interment to follow with full military honors at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
