Rev.  Boyd N. Walton Jr. Notice


Rev. Boyd N. Walton, Jr. of Severna Park, MD, died on Monday, March 17, 2014, at age 83, in Severn, MD, after a long illness. Rev. Walton is survived by his brother, Henry A. Walton, his children, Sherman G. Walton, Patricia Walton Caesar, Boyd N. Walton, III, Valerie T. Walton, David H. Walton, Carolyn Walton Lynch, and 23 grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren. Born in Coopers, WV, on October 26, 1930, to the late Boyd N. Walton, Sr. and Viola Davis Walton, Rev. Walton graduated from Bluestone High School in Bramwell, WV, and attended West Virginia State College for two years before joining the United States Air Force. He was married 52 years to his late wife, Eddie Bell Syas Walton. He retired in 1973 after 22+ years of service in the USAF as a Chief Master Sergeant. Rev. Walton was first ordained in the Baptist Church in 1958. He later transferred to the United Methodist Church - Baltimore Washington Conference, and retired as an Elder in 1998. His ministerial and pastoral experience spanned 44 years internationally: bi-vocationally for 30 years, and 14 years full time, in LA, TX, MI, Turkey, Germany, WV and MD. Rev. Walton is an alumnus of UMCP and Howard University, and held Master's degrees in Social Work and Divinity. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Rev. Walton's career in service included ten years with the MD Department of Social Services as a Social Worker. He was dedicated to community service and advocacy and held leadership positions in numerous local and national educational, religious and service-based organizations. His most treasured achievement was founding a progressive and diverse Intra-Faith church in 1971 in Berlin, Germany. The church is still active today. A celebration of Rev. Walton's life of service will commence with a viewing at Estep Brothers Funeral Home in Baltimore, MD on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. On Saturday, March 29, 2014, a viewing and funeral services will be held at 10:00AM and 11:00AM, respectively, at Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Severn, MD. On Monday, March, 31, 2014, Rev. Walton will be laid to rest at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD at 11:30AM following a brief service at the Memorial Chapel on the grounds. Discretionary monetary gifts may be made in the form of donations to Metropolitan United Methodist Church, Severn, MD, or the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Geriatric Care Fund, Baltimore, MD.
