HARTENSTEIN III , JAMES JACOB James Jacob Hartenstein III, 43, of New Freedom, PA, died suddenly at home on Sunday, June 27, 2010. He was the husband of Tami A. (Sechrist) Hartenstein, with whom he celebrated 10 years of marriage on October 8, 2009, and the father of Grace Elizabeth Hartenstein, the joy of his life and his best fishing buddy. Born October 1, 1966 in York, PA, Jim III was the son of James J. and Sharon L. (Bamforth) Hartenstein of Glen Rock, PA. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer L. (Hartenstein) and Chris McGraw and niece Stella James McGraw of Stewartstown, PA; and aunts, uncles, cousins and many extended family members and friends. Jim III was a fifth-generation funeral director at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc. in New Freedom and Stewartstown, PA where over the last 20 years, he companioned hundreds of families and helped to lead the family business as co-owner and vice president of funeral service operations. Next to his family, Jim III's passions were fishing with his daughter, hunting, and being outdoors. He was also a fan of auto racing, was a sports enthusiast, and liked following and forecasting the weather.
Public viewings will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM and also 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 North Second Street, New Freedom. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM on Friday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 175 E. Main Street, New Freedom, PA followed by interment in New Freedom Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to THE JIII FOUNDATION, c/o PeoplesBank, PO Box 925, Stewartstown, PA 17363, to create a living legacy for children dedicated to nurturing their love for the outdoors.
