Dale A. Merwin Battle Creek Dale A. Merwin, age 80, died Tuesday November 13, 2012 at Heritage Assisted Living Community. Dale was born March 16, 1932 in Marengo, Michigan to Willard and Ester (Bentley) Merwin. Dale graduated from the Washington Gardner High School in Albion and served with the US Army in the Korean War. Dale had been employed as the manager of the meat department for the A&P Grocery Stores. He managed stores in Battle Creek, Coldwater, Marshall and Kalamazoo; he retired in 1987 after 39 years of service. Dale enjoyed, golf, fishing, camping, gardening, music, and spending time with his grandchildren. Dale was active with the Food Bank of Southwest Michigan, he coached baseball with the Optimist Club Harper Creek summer leagues and was a Cub Scout leader, and was a member of the "Whirls and Girls" Square Dancing Club. Dale had served as Constable, Trustee and assistant Fire Chief for Leroy Twp. He is survived by his wife H. Carolyn Howe-Merwin, sons, Keith (Rebecca) Merwin and Kirk (Christine) Merwin, both of Battle Creek, grandchildren, Alisha(Andrew) Funk and Darrin Merwin, step children, Sherri (Kelly) Music of Clinton Twp., MI, Gloria (Robert) Schneider, of Highland, MI, and Robert (Sue) Howe of Wayland, MI, a sister, Isabelle Miller-Buchanan of Marshall. Dale was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Jean (Simmons) Merwin in 1999, brothers, Forrest and Robert Merwin. Private family services will be held.
