Jay Wesley Vincent Sr. East Leroy Jay Wesley Vincent Sr., 83, of East Leroy passed away January 3rd, 2014 in the hospital surrounded by his family. He was born to Alta and Howard Vincent of Tekonsha on April 6th, 1930. Jay was one of 13 brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Betty Jane (Conine) Vincent of Athens. Jay is survived by his two sons Jay Vincent Jr. and George Vincent. He will be lovingly remembered by his 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Jay proudly served in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War during which he received 3 Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged after 12 years as a Sergeant 1st Class. After his military service he worked at Union Pump of Battle Creek for 26 years. He took pride in his family and home and enjoyed mowing his vast lawn for hours on end. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 7th, from 6 pm to 8 p.m. at Spencer Family Funeral Home in Athens. Spencer's will host funeral services Wednesday, January 8th, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Marvin Savola officiating. Interment with military honors provided by Athens VFW Post 5319, directly following at North Athens Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jay's life following interment at North Athens Baptist Church. The family is asking any donations be made to Alzheimer's Foundation of America (alzfdn.org) to fight the devastating effects of dementia.
