Michael David Paulsen, 72, of Battle Creek, died peacefully at home on Friday, August 9, 2013 after an extended illness. He was born March 10, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI the son of Milton Rudolph and Olive Leona Maria (Wilk) Paulsen. Michael received a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he was a member of the marching band and the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He attended the FTD Floral Design School in Chicago and then went on to receive his Masters Degree in Horticulture from Michigan State University where he met his wife of 47 years. Michael retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center where he was a horticultural therapist for 23 years. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, camping, and boating, but most of all Michael loved gardening and growing all manner of plant life. Many a friend, neighbor, and acquaintance were the recipient of Michael's fruits, vegetable, plants, wreaths, bulbs, cuttings, flower arrangements and landscape design advice.
He is survived by his wife, Judith L. Paulsen; children, Katherine (James) Carlin and David (Charlene) Paulsen; siblings, Judith (Stan) Schabert and Thomas (Janice) Paulsen; sister-in-law, Patti Paulsen; brother-in-law, Thomas Silver; 7 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Frederic Paulsen and Patricia Silver; son-in-law, Brian Cushman; and granddaughter, Alysse Cushman.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with funeral services to follow at 12:00 PM with The Rt. Rev. David Hustwick officiating. Memorial tributes may be made to the
