O'Shield May, 84, of Lansing, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Grandhaven Assisted Living in Lansing, MI. He was born April 14, 1929 in Rondo, AR the son of Jonny May and Mattie (Sayles) Wimberely. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Battle Creek V.A. Hospital, working in maintenance.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Flora May-Freeman; children, Patricia Gatson, Walter (Rose) May, Frances (Mark) Freeman and Brenda (Melvin) Dixon; grandchildren, Nakita Harden, Christopher Gatson, Brittney May, Mia Dixon, Mariah Dixon
great grandchildren, LeSharr Williams, Javien Dunbar, Ajanai Bermudez, Sienna Bermudez; special nephew, Eddie May Jones; and God-daughter, Kathy Mathis-Horry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Markisha Freeman; and brother, Eddie May, Sr.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00-1:00 PM at First Salem Missionary Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Craig T. Tatum officiating.
Burial will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to Hometown Hospice in Lansing.
