Ralph E. Gilbert Battle Creek Ralph E. Gilbert, 91, of Battle Creek died peacefully on Tuesday evening, November 27, 2012 at the Pineview Assisted Living at NorthPointe Woods. He was born in Nardin, Oklahoma on May 23, 1921 and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1940. A Purple Heart and 6 Bronze Star recipient, Ralph faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 and retired from National Food Stores in 1983 after more than 35 years. Ralph was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 60 years. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Battle Creek Country Club and was very proud of his "Hole-in-One". Ralph also enjoyed traveling over the years. Ralph married Jean C. Scott at the First Presbyterian Church on April 20, 1946; she sadly preceded him in death on June 10, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his step-son, David S. Jenney. Ralph is survived by his 2 daughters, Susan (David) DeRossett of Battle Creek and Nancy Dameron of Battle Creek; a step-daughter, Diana (David) Burrill of Cadillac and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their appreciation for the love, compassion and support shown to Ralph by the staff and residents at NorthPointe Woods. At Ralph's request, cremation has taken place and no services are being planned. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek.
