Born in Minneapolis, MN to Stanley and Alvina Sarp. One brother, Gerald, of Minneapolis, MN. As a child, Jim loved the snow and being outdoors. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor's degree in physics. He served in the United States Air Force where, in 1967, was sent to Texas A&M for a year to study meteorology. While there, he met his wife, Linda, through a roommate of his who happened to be her cousin. Jim was then transferred to Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, NE where he worked with Global Weather and then was transferred to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX where he got his Master's degree in Computer Science. Jim and Linda were married January 15, 1972. That summer, he was transferred to Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He left the Air Force at the end of 1972 and moved to Minneapolis where he worked with computers at Univac. Their son, Steven James Sarp, was born in 1976 and in 1978, they moved to Houston where Jim worked with the space shuttle program as a NASA contractor. He retired in 2010. The family started attending Clear Lake Baptist Church in the early 1980s where he began helping run the sound on Sundays. Some of his favorite things were riding his bicycle to work and driving a truck to pick up and deliver food for Clear Lake Food Pantry. Jim is survived by his wife, Linda, his son, Steven, and his brother, Gerald.
