Betty Jane Bemel Night, 84, of Beaumont, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013. A native of Port Arthur, she was born on August 31, 1928, to Ida Bagelman Bemel and Abraham Bemel. Survivors include her husband, Harvey Night; daughter, Barbra Night, and her partner, Errol Chavkin; son, Allan Night and his wife, Rivka Night; grandsons, Nadav Night and Orry Night; granddaughter, Chloe Tucker; and in-laws, Dorothy Bemel; Bernice Night Schnurr; Gerri Night Rich and Mel Rich; Elton Schackman; Ralph Night and Judy Night. She is preceded in death by her brother, Jerome Frankel Bemel; and in-laws, Evelyn Night Schackman, Norman Schnurr; S.D. Night; and Nanette Night. A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Kol Israel Cemetery, 2291 Pine Street, Beaumont, with Rabbi Joshua Taub officiating, under the direction of Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to her care givers, Cindy Stark, Sharon Cormier, Crisha Whitehead, Annette Spencer, Edith Arentz, Tamika Johnson and Daniel Stark. A longtime Beaumont resident, she was particularly fond of the theatre having performed in numerous local productions, and at the University of Texas where she graduated with a degree in Fine Arts in 1950. She closely monitored events of the day, keeping up with the latest news, stock market averages and Astro's won/loss record. She was a substitute teacher at Beaumont High. where she briefly headed the drama department, and a member of Temple Emanuel of Beaumont. May her name be a blessing.
