Doris Jean Metzler Eveland, 90, of Beaumont, died Thursday, March 13, 2014. She was born on May 15, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, to Helen Ward Metzler and Virgil Everett Metzler. Doris married H.E. Ed Eveland on July 6, 1944, in Champaign, Illinois, and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1945. They moved to Beaumont in 1951. Doris was a founding member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and served as Deacon, Elder, and on numerous committees and groups. She enjoyed family gatherings, travel, camping, volunteering, knitting, and reading. Doris is survived by her sons, Kenneth Eveland, M.D. and his wife, Susan, of Tyler; Thomas Eveland and his wife, Sheila, of Silsbee; Richard Eveland and his wife, Melodye, of Round Rock; and John Eveland and his wife, Debra, of Irving; five grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; sister, Virginia Barlow of Wildwood, Illinois; three nieces; and one nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents and by her husband of sixty-five years, Dr. H.E. Ed Eveland. A gathering of Mrs. Eveland's family and friends will begin at 3:00 p.m., with her memorial service to follow at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
