Douglas S. Carter of Kilgore passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 5, 2013. He was born in Graham, Texas on July 1, 1923 to Bess Christopher Carter and W.H. Ed Carter. He is survived by his wife Clara, his son Barry and wife Sue and two grandchildren Douglas and Caroline. After graduating from Graham High School, Doug attended both TCU and Baylor universities, playing football at both schools. He joined the U.S. Navy in World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. It was at Baylor, after the war, that he met and married Clara, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage. Doug retired from Sun Oil Company in 1980 and his hobbies included reading his Bible, playing golf and working on his acreage located in the Cross Roads community. Graveside services will be Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Hickory Grove Cemetery with the Reverend Ralph Rudy officiating.
