Gus Buzz F. Perkins, Jr., 70, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013. A native of Beaumont, he was born on January 22, 1943, to Georgia Mae Spalding Perkins and Gus Frederick Perkins, Sr. Gus was a 1961 graduate of South Park High School. He attained the rank of Sergeant while serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Gus was awarded the Purple Heart, Gallantry Cross with Palms, and two bronze stars for his service in Vietnam. A man of many talents, Gus worked as a brick mason until he was drafted in 1968. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked for ten years for National Office Machine, and later retired from ExxonMobil in 2005. Beverly and Gus recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Gus is survived by his wife, Beverly Stewart Perkins of Beaumont; sisters, Betty Byerly and her husband, Wayne, of Port Neches and Mary Ward and her husband, Malcolm, of Temple; nieces and nephews, Shereé LeBlanc Gutierrez, Lee LeBlanc, Angela McGallion, Tim Byerly, Bryan Ward, Michael Ward, David Ward, and Madison Stewart; dog, Molly; and other loving family members. He is preceded in death by his sister, Ann Perkins LeBlanc. A Christian Vigil will be at 6:00 p.m., with a gathering of Mr. Perkins' family and friends to follow, Friday, August 30, 2013, at Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013, at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson Street, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
