James Lee Spurlock, 82, of Woodville, passed away, Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Funeral services will be Friday, April 19, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial to follow in Beech Creek Cemetery in Spurger. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. James was born September 29, 1930 to Arthur Lee & Mary Florence Molly Dickey Spurlock in Fred, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Tyler County, was a former resident of Huntsville & Port Arthur and was a retired supervisor from Texaco Refinery. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War where he received two purple hearts. He was a life member of V.F.W & D.A.V. & Jefferson County Sheriff's Posse, and was a 50 year Mason, belonging to Woodville's Magnolia Lodge #495. He loved to fish, hunt, and raise & ride horses. He was a lifetime member of the Baptist Church, having belong to the First Baptist Church of Woodville for the past 14 years. He loved his grandchildren & great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor Spurlock of Woodville; son, Danny Spurlock & wife, Vanessa of Silsbee; daughter, Carole Dickey & husband, Steve of Centerville; brother, Toby Spurlock & wife, Shirley of Woodville; sister, Erline Ingle & husband, Chuck of Woodville; grandchildren, James Daniel Spurlock & wife, Ashley of College Station, Jennifer Spurlock Armstrong & husband, Andy of College Station, Chad Dickey & wife, Raney of Centerville; and great grandchildren, Gracie Armstrong, Tex Armstrong, Emma Spurlock, and Jayde Dickey; and numerous nieces & nephews.
