Dr. James R. Hawker, Sr., 79, passed away Wednesday, Apr. 16, 2014, in Granbury. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home. Memorial Service: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Wiley Funeral Home. Dr. Hawker was born Aug. 15, 1934, in Danville, Va., to Obie Allen Hawker and Mary Bevill Hawker. He married Gloria Jean McCarty, May 7, 1954, in Biloxi, Miss. James had lived in Granbury since 2012, having previously lived in Beaumont. He was a Professor of Psychology at the University of Texas and Lamar University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. James enjoyed golf, woodworking, playing the guitar, singing and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters. Survivors: Wife, Gloria Jean Hawker of Granbury; sons, James Ray Hawker, Jr. and wife, Pat, of Frostproof, Fla., Robert Lawrence Hawker and wife, Julie, of Fort Worth, Jason Allen Hawker and wife, Wendy, of Granbury; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
