Mr. Jerry R. Sonnier, 81, of Port Neches passed away peacefully with his family by his side on the 16th of May, 2014 at Magnolia Manor in Groves, Texas. Jerry was born on July 28, 1932 to Claud and Eddie Sonnier in Port Arthur, Texas and was a resident of mid county his entire life. After graduating in 1951 from Thomas Jefferson High School he then attended Texas A & M University as a member of the Corp of Cadets and received his Bachelor of Arts in 1955. Jerry then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Boxer during the Korean conflict and upon completion of his service enlisted in the naval reserves until his honorable discharge in 1961. In 1958 Jerry started his career with the Gulf Oil Corporation in Port Arthur as a Systems Analyst and retired from the facility after the merger with Chevron in 1989 with 32 years of service. After his retirement he enjoyed volunteering his time to various organizations such as the First Baptist Church Port Neches where he was a member since 1970, The Hebert Library in Port Neches, Community Outreach Center and the Port Arthur Salvation Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claud and Eddie Sonnier and brother, Robert Joseph Sonnier. He is survived by one son, Randy Sonnier and his wife, Shari of Nederland; daughter, Susan Harriger and husband, David of Humble, TX; grandchildren, Whitney Wolf and Jacob Sonnier of Nederland and Chelsea and Dylan Harriger of Humble and one great grandchild Landry Ryan Sonnier of Nederland. Visitation for Mr. Sonnier will be held at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves on Monday the 19th of May from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Services will also be held at Levingston Funeral Home on Tuesday the 20th of May at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Roger Durham conducting the service. Interment service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park immediately after the service. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Magnolia Manor for all their care over the years as well as Odyssey/Gentiva Hospice Care. In lieu of flowers the family asks that any contributions be made to the Hebert Library in Port Neches.
