Laura Jane (Fontenot) Sargent, 58, peacefully took Jesus' hand on Monday afternoon, Feb. 25, 2013, and is now walking with Him through God's beautiful gardens. All of those that knew Laura saw God's light shining through her ever-present smile. She was a kind and caring person that viewed life, people, and nature through grateful eyes and a godly spirit. She especially enjoyed hiking, biking, and spending time with her grandchildren. Laura was born in Ville Platte, La. and lived her childhood years in Beaumont, Tx, graduating from Forest Park High School. After moving to Lafayette, La., she received a BA (1976) from the University of SW LA followed by a MA (1990) and a PhD (2000) in English Literature, both from Texas A&M in College Station, Tx. Her ability to analyze literature with a historical perspective was recognized through various awards that she received while completing her PhD. Laura shared her knowledge of English literature and humanities through positions held at Texas A&M University in College Station, Tx and Lone Star College in The Woodlands, Tx. Laura is survived by her husband - Tim Sargent, parents - Bernard and Jane (Pitre) Fontenot, daughter - Lisa and son-in-law Logan Kuntiz, daughter - Julie and son-in-law Jader Arguello, grandchildren - Seth and Nathan Kunitz, and Caroline and Isabella Arguello, older brothers - Billy, Charlie, and Ronny Fontenot, and younger sister - Sandy (Fontenot) Mikolajczyk, along with many nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Laura's life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 9, 2013, at The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church, located at 4881 W Panther Creek Drive, The Woodlands, Tx 77381. A reception will follow at the church.
