James Hodge Lewis was born on October 23, 1928, in Silsbee. He was the second child of John Hodge and Alma Price. Hodge was nicknamed, Bubba, Big Will, Hoss, and L.J., by those who loved him. Hodge graduated from Frazier Matthews High School, Silsbee TX in 1945. He received a BA degree from Prairie View A&M University in 1954, a MA in Mathematics in 1957. Hodge attended law school at Lincoln University San Francisco, CA where he received his JD. Hodge served in the military from 1945 to 1950. He was a member of the NCO 24th infantry regiment, 25th division Buffalo Soldier. After WWII, Hodge was a barber, night club owner, and entertainment manager; he booked many famous music acts in the Silsbee night club he owned. Hodge moved to California in the early 1960s where he sold real estate and operated a tax preparation business. While running a successful business, Lewis returned to school to study law. After law school he returned to Texas where he practiced law for over 30 years. Hodge was a member of the following organizations: Miller-Johnson Post #893 Silsbee TX, 1949-1959; Omega PSI Phi Fraternity, 1947 to Present; Masons, 1949 to present; Dori E. Miller Post # 817, Beaumont, TX. He was a member of the Texas Bar Association. In California, Hodge attended Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under Dr. Herbert Guice. He served as chairman of the trustee board and worked tirelessly supporting the churchs mission and growth. In Texas he attended Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church, under Rev. G.W. Daniels, where he was chairman of the trustee board, served as manager for the churchs apartment complex for many years. Hodge was preceded in death by his parents John and Alma Hodge, his brother John E. Hodge, sister Elizabeth Hicks, sister in-law Aneita Hodge, and niece Joyce Hodge-Reid. Hodge leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife Alma, son Marvin Goudeau, daughter Stacy Eaglin (Gerard), in-laws Mason and Rena Arceneaux, Malcom and Debbie Goudeau, a brother Elroy Walter Harvey (Bobbie), sister Myrtle Hodge, a special cousin Cecil Conner. A niece Stephanie Hodge-Daniels (Anthony), grand niece Angela Sanderson (Christopher), Grandchildren Ashleigh Eaglin, Gerard Eaglin, and Adrian Eaglin; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
