1925 - 2014 Robert Thomas (Bob) Grissom, Sr., 89, passed away on August 21, 2014 in Nederland, Texas. He was born June 27, 1925 in Hickman, Kentucky, the youngest of seven children, to William Thomas Grissom and Ida Mae (Baker) Grissom. Bob grew up in Hickman and Clinton, Kentucky. He began working for the Illinois Central Railroad at the age of fourteen, yet he graduated, along with his class, early from high school in Clinton, Kentucky in December of 1942 in order to volunteer for military service in World War II. He served in the Army Air Corp with duty in England, France, and Germany. After military service he attended The University of Tennessee at Memphis where he studied Business Administration. For more than forty years Bob worked as a Ships' Agent and Marine Department Supervisor for Pure Oil Company/ Union Oil of California. Bob married Jean Rosamond (Glisson) Grissom on August 8, 1947 in Senatobia, Mississippi. They were happily married for nearly 50 years and enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, and trips to Las Vegas. Bob took pleasure in fishing, hunting, gardening, playing blackjack and watching baseball. He had either watched or listened to most Houston Astros games since their inception. Bob is survived by his daughter Marsha Lynn Grissom Murray and her husband Allan of San Jose, California, his son Robert Thomas Grissom, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Nederland, Texas as well as extended family which includes nieces and nephews in Kentucky and Tennessee. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Jean in December 1996, his parents, three brothers and three sisters. At Bob's request, there will be no funeral or memorial services.
