Jack Guy Wood, 87, of Forest, died on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at his home with his wife Nancy by his side. He was born on Sept. 9, 1925 in Paris, France a son of the late John Rhodin Wood and the late Jeanne Brissaud Wood. Jack was a French translator, before joining the Army Air Corps and later joining the United States Air Force. He served in WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post #1 in Paris, France and currently a member of Post 0141. After the military he still served his country with the U.S. Department of State until his retirement in 1978. During his career he served at the American Embassy in Dublin, Ireland; U.S. Mission in Milan, Italy; U.S. Mission in Geneva, Switzerland and at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, DC. He loved to travel and enjoyed the planning stage almost as much as the many places he visited over his lifetime. Jack was a member of Timberlake United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife Nancy his is survived by a daughter: Jane Victorine Smith (Cristian) of Salt Lake City, UT, a son:, Lawrence Wood (Sylviane) of Madagascar: a brother, James William Wood (Carol) of Rockville, MD; a step-daughter: Sheena Bibee (Nick) of Lynchburg, a step-son: Shane Meeker of NJ:, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Evelyn Weaver. A memorial service was held Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Timberlake United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Rob Colwell officiating.
