John Quarles Whorley, Jr., 80 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 1932 in Bedford County, the son of the late John Q. Whorley, Sr. and Juanita Dudley Whorley. He was a U. S. Army veteran, a retired truck driver with Workman Oil Company and was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Nicopolis United Methodist Church. Surviving is his wife of fifty-nine years, Margaret B. Whorley; two daughters, Sharon W. Overstreet and husband, Dennis of Bedford; Carol W. Key and husband, Grant of Lynchburg; a son, John M. Whorley of Bedford; three grandchildren, Mandy O. Johnson and husband, Brad, Ann Elizabeth Key, Mary Margaret Key; two sisters, Ruby May Whorley, Jo Anne Bobbitt, both of Bedford. Interment will follow in Nicopolis United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday beginning at 12 noon at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
