Melvin James â€œJimâ€ Cassell, 77, of Bedford, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014. He was born in Majestic, KY on Dec. 15, 1936 a son of the late Raliegh Cassell and Vina Stiltner Cassell. Jim was an Air Force veteran serving in the Vietnam War and retired with 20 years of service. He then retired as a Service Manager with Cummins Diesel. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Claudene H. Cassell; three sons, James Cassell and wife, Phyllis of Bedford; Charles Cassell and wife, Lisa of Charlotte, NC; Gregory Cassell and wife, Linda of Crozet; six grandchildren, Britani, Zachary, Kari, Alex, Jaime and Carly; two great-granddaughters, Katelyn and Olivia; brothers William Fannin and wife, Beverly, Ellsworth Fannin and wife, Barabara; Elmer Fannie and wife Mary Ann; Donnie Fannin and wife, Elaine; two sisters, Lois Ann Fannin and Barbara Fannin all of Delaware; a special thanks to our niece, Kay Street and husband, Homer. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the Lighthouse Free Will Baptist Church, 942 Burks Hill Rd, Bedford. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel with Rev. Larry Ross and Rev. Danny Holdren officiating.
