Robert Lee Dillon, Jr., (Bob), 85, of Bedford, passed away, Dec. 4, 2012 at Oakwood Manor in Bedford. He was born in Boissevain, on April 12, 1927, a son of the late Robert Lee Dillon, Sr. and Bessie LaPradd Dillon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Damas Dillon and a nephew, David Randall Dillon. Bob was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church; a retiree of the former Rubatex Corp.; a World War II veteran having served in the Navy; a volunteer in the Bedford Fire Dept for over 18 years; and a dedicated volunteer at the D-Day Memorial for several years. Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia Thomas Dillon; his daughters, Diane D. Linkous and husband, Danny; Deborah D. Barnard and her husband, Barry; two grandsons, Robert M. Barnard and C. Ryan Linkous; two granddaughters, Eryn E. Linkous and Meredith G. Barnard; a niece, three great-nephews, a great-niece and a cousin. A graveside committal service took place on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 in Virginia Memorial Park at 12 noon followed by a service of Celebration of Bobâ€™s life at Main Street United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. The family suggests gifts in memory of Bob be made to the D-Day Memorial or Main Street United Methodist Church. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and thanks to the staff at Oakwood Manor for their care and kindness to Bob during his illness.
