Amos L. "Bud" Mebold, 91, formerly of Belleville, born June 8, 1922, in Alhambra, Ill., passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Ky.

After graduating from high school, Bud joined the Army during World War II and served with the Railway Operation Battalion 745 in India until the end of the war. After the war, he met the love of his life and they were married on July 18, 1946.

Bud's professional career spanned 34 years with Monsanto Chemical Company at the Krumrich Plant in Sauget, Ill., where he retired as a maintenance foreman. In retirement, Bud enjoyed working as a Red Cross volunteer with St. Elizabeth's Hospital.

Bud was very active in St. Henry's Parish, the Men's Club of St. Henry's, and the Knights of Columbus Council 592. He especially enjoyed working the Friday night Fish Fries.

At home, Bud thoroughly enjoyed working in his yard. He planted many trees, shrubs, and flowers and the yard always looked beautiful. He was a wonderful, patient husband and father, soft spoken, kind hearted, and slow to anger.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Beth Mebold; his parents, Albert H. and Susie, nee Johnson, Mebold; a brother, Earl U. Mebold; and a step-brother, Rodney L. Johnson.

Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Emma Sue, nee Hayden, Mebold; two daughters, Patricia Sue (Lew) Williams of Venice, Fla., and Mary Jo (Clyde) Kuehn of Belleville, Ill., and Lexington, Ky.; a grandson, Matthew Allen (Ashley) Williams of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two great-grandchildren, Andrew Allen Williams and Caroline Elizabeth Williams; as well as many nieces and nephews.
