M. Dean Brewer, 66, of Lebanon, Ill., born March 13, 1948, in Shelbyville, Ill., died Friday, June 27, 2014, on Doctor Island on Lake Otukamamoan near Port Francis Canada during an annual fishing trip.

Dean received his master's in education and administration and retired from the Lebanon School District 9 as superintendent of schools. He loved fishing, hunting and was an avid pinochle and euchre player.

Dean was a member of First United Methodist Church and Sunday school teacher in Lebanon, Ill., Retired Teachers Association, Lebanon Rotary Club, Lebanon Planning Commission, Lebanon Economic Development Committee, and Masonic Lodge in Pinckneyville, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Helen Loraine, nee Bartimus, Brewer; and his father-in-law.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl, nee Lapka, Brewer, whom he married on June 13, 1970, in Hinsdale; his sons, Todd Brewer of King Salmon Alaska, and Brad (Katie) Brewer of Cutler; two grandchildren, Kendyl and Reagyn Brewer; siblings, Daniel (Karen) Brewer of Findlay, Joyce (Merle) Brown of Bethany and James Brewer of Bethany; and his mother-in-law, Mary Lapka of Lebanon.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church ARP for the installation of a new elevator and will be received at the church or through Moss Funeral Home in Trenton who is handling the arrangements. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to

Visitation: Family will receive family and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday July 7, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Lebanon, Ill.

Funeral: Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday July 7, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Lebanon with Rev. Peter Wehrly officiating.
