Dee Wayne Heil

Pastor Dee Wayne Heil, 62, of Mount Vernon, Ill., born June 24, 1951, in Eldorado, Ill., passed away at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon, Ill.

Mr. Heil was an Eagle Scout. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a military policeman (MP). He was retired from the Illinois State Police crime scene department, retired as assistant chief of the Carmi Police Department, and was currently working for East Carondelet Police Department as a detective. He was an instructor at Southwestern Police Academy (SWIC) in Belleville, Ill., and was currently a licensed private investigator. Dee Wayne had been a pastor of the New Life Harvest Church in Mount Vernon for 13 years. He was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 262 in Belleville. If someone wrote a book about Dee's life, nobody would believe it. No one could have done everything this man had done in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rena, nee Gillihan, Heil.

Surviving are his wife, Molly, nee Sanchez, Heil, whom he married on June 28, 1972, in Moab, Utah; son, David (Samantha) Heil of Belleville, Ill.; daughter, Raeline Heil (John McKinley) of Belleville, Ill.; and four grandchildren, Dakota Heil, Cassie Chatham, and Joshua and Kaitlyn McKinley.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Ill. A law enforcement walk-through will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at New Life Harvest Church in Mount Vernon, Ill., with Pastor Ed. Schmulbach officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi, Ill. Members of the Carmi American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
