Donald Baldus

Donald E. Baldus, 82, of Belleville, Ill., born Saturday, May 23, 1931, in Belleville, Ill., died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013.

Don was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Belleville, Ill. He graduated from Belleville Township High School in 1949 and from the University of Illinois in 1953, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Don retired in 1991, from Monsanto as a agricultural research chemist and inventor of several patents. After his retirement, Don continued to work for Monsanto as a consultant until 2011 with over 55 years of service. Don also served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves retiring in 1981 as a lieutenant colonel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar A. and Margaret L., nee Eisenberg, Baldus; brothers, David Baldus, and Kenneth Baldus; and sister, Joyce Wohlfeil.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Nancy L., nee Meyer, Baldus; children, Leslie A. (John) Wallace of DuQuoin, Ill., Douglas E. Baldus of Swansea, Ill., and John E. (Phoebe) Baldus of Chesterfield, Mo.; grandchildren, Leah (Andrew) Dugan, Erika (Todd) Stolte, Nicole (Mike) Goff, and Nathan Baldus; great-grandchildren, Braden Dugan, Brin Goff, and Kayla Stolte; sister, Nancy Mahoney of Belleville, Ill.; sister-in-law, Joan (Charles) Wiegreffe of Waterloo, Ill.; brother-in-law, Dick Wohlfeil of West Seneca, N.Y.; and nieces, nephews and many friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: A funeral procession will leave from Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Ill., at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Belleville, Ill., with Father Jim Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville, Ill.
