Eldon S. Heer, 98, of Lebanon, Ill., born March 31, 1914, in Lebanon, Ill., died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Rosewood Health Care in Swansea, Ill.
Eldon was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lebanon, Ill. He took over the management of the family store from his father, and worked there until he retired. He attended McKendree College in Lebanon, Ill., and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Lebanon American Legion, a former member of the Lions Club and Lebanon Rotary Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Evelyn, nee Schertz, Heer, whom he married Sept. 5, 1943, in Washington, Ill.; parents, Christian and Elizabeth Mary, nee Baer, Heer; and three sisters, Crystal Heer, Elfrieda Godat, and Carol Langenwalter.
Surviving are two children, Dean E. Heer of Lebanon, Ill., and Linda L. (Michael) Erwin of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Lebanon, Ill.
Visitation: Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Lebanon, Ill.
Funeral: Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at the church with the Rev. Peter J. Wehrly, Pastor, officiating.
