Elmer Blaise

Elmer Blaise, 89, of Belleville, Ill., formerly of Fairview Heights, Ill., born Jan. 16, 1924, in East St. Louis, Ill., entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Rosewood Care Center, Swansea, Ill.

Elmer was an iron worker and a member of Local 392 for more than 60 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, VFW Post of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Yorktown Golf League. He served in the United States Coast Guard on the USS VanBuren during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Anna L., nee Blackburn, Blaise; parents, Stephen and Julia, nee Bori, Blaise; two brothers, William Blaise and Ernest Blaise; a sister, Marcella Rickmann; sisters-in-law, Joann Blaise and Shirley Keck; brother-in-law, Norman Keck; and a special friend, Dorothy Wangelin.

Surviving are his two daughters, Kathleen (Russ) Maloney of St. Jacob, Ill., and Patricia (Robert) Blackston of Belleville, Ill.; his grandchildren, Kelli (Tony) Scibilia of Carlsbad, Calif., Kara (Bruce) Rapien of New Baden, Ill., Jonathan (Sunshine) Heger of Houston, Texas, Brett Heger of Phoenix, Ariz., Beth (Dolan) Dalpoas of Lincoln, Ill., and Bobby Blackston (Joi Fellows) of Naperville, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Madison Rapien, Hayden Rapien, Greg Scibilia, Tony Scibilia, Landon Scibilia, Dillon Heger, J.T. Heger, Joe Dalpoas and Louie Dalpoas; brother-in-law, Richard Rickmann of O'Fallon, Ill.; and sister-in-law, Irene Blaise of Belleville, Ill. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and was a great friend to many.

The family would like to thank the staff of Rosewood Care Center, Swansea, Ill., and Heartland Hospice for their excellent care of Elmer.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral procession to leave at 10:30 a.m.. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, from Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill., for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, Ill., with Father Ray Schultz officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
