Ethel E. Hassebrock, nee Junck, 97, of Belleville, Ill., born July 2, 1917, in Belleville, Ill., passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, Ill., surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Hassebrock was a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was affectionately known as "the ice cream lady" at the Mascoutah High School cafeteria for 20 years. Ethel was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Belleville, Ill. She was the First Lady of Mascoutah, with her husband serving as mayor. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Mascoutah Chapter, the Women of the Moose Chapter 53, and the Belleville Senior Citizens. Ethel loved to dance and won a trophy for dancing the Charleston. From ballroom dancing to line dancing, she never missed a chance to dance.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Roland W. Hassebrock, whom she married Dec. 23, 1939, and who died Sept. 4, 1982; parents, Albert and Leona, nee Ritzheimer, Junck; a brother, Arthur (Eula) Junck; two sisters, Helen (Clement) Butz and Leona (Dwight) Kellmer; four brothers-in-law, Richard Hassebrock, Walter Hassebrock, Henry Hassebrock, and Edwin Albenisius; a sister-in-law, Mona (Ben) Keck; and a niece, Joyce Butz.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Barbara (Paul) Cleland of Belleville, Ill.; her son, Roland (Brenda) Hassebrock of Manassas Park, Va.; four grandchildren, Bartlett (Jennifer) Cleland of Vienna, Va., Douglas (Lia) Hassebrock of Leesburg, Va., Angel (Stephan) Gee of Belleville, Ill., and Melinda (Alfred) Pamatigan of Kapolei, Hawaii; seven great-grandchildren, Cayden, Ava, Christian, Madison, Charlotte, Avery, and Brock; many nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law, Audrey Hassebrock, Ella Thomas, and Ruth Hassebrock; two brothers-in-law, Elmer Hassebrock and Arthur Hassebrock; and other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to extend special appreciation to the staff of Freeburg Care Center and to Hospice of Southern Illinois for their loving care and concern shown to Ethel.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at the church with Rev. Dr. Arthur Tinge officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
