Gene T. Snyder, 89, of Columbia, Ill., born April 5, 1925, in Commerce, Okla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, in Columbia, Ill.
Gene was a proud member of the Chosin Few, the 3rd Infantry Battalion (The Thirsty Third). He had retired from civil service at Defense Mapping Agency, St. Louis, Mo., had served in the U.S. Marines and was a World War II, China Marines, and Korean War veteran, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Billie, nee Trout, Snyder; and a twin brother, Jack Snyder.
Surviving are his wife, Bernice, nee Burke, Snyder, whom he married on Sept. 1, 1951, in Dover, N.J.; his sons, Michael (Gwen) Snyder of Columbia, Ill., and Eric Snyder of Waterloo, Ill.; a daughter, Linmarie (Tony) Mantia of Waterloo, Ill.; grandchildren, Joshua Snyder and Kelly (Chad) Benzinger; great-grandchildren, Ian Stanley and Belle Benzinger; and other relatives and friends.
