Harold Humphreys

Harold George "Humpy" Humphreys, 74, of Collinsville, Ill., formerly of Granite City, Ill., born Sept. 22, 1939, in Granite City, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at St. Lukes Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.

Harold proudly served in the Army Reserves. On Sept. 5, 1959, Harold married Cheryl Squires, the love of his life. He had retired in 1996 from Air Products and Chemical in Granite City, Ill., as a terminal manager. Harold was a member of Eden United Church of Christ, N.R.A., Granite City Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge and was an Ainad Shriner with the hospital unit in East St. Louis, Ill. He coached for many years the Blue Jays baseball team and Mr. Donut soccer team. Harold enjoyed boating, camping and fishing. He was also a John Wayne fan. He loved watching his old western movies. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren whom he adored. Harold will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold D. and Beulah, nee Clyde, Humphreys; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Ruth Squires; and a brother-in-law, Dean Wood.

Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Cheryl L. Humphreys of Collinsville, Ill.; two dear children, Jon Scott (Carol) Humphreys of Edwardsville, Ill., and Laura (Rick) Moore of Troy, Ill.; sister, Suzanne (Charles) Dick of Dothan, Ala.; loving grandfather to Brandon Humphreys, Nick Humphreys, Alexa Humphreys, Ethan Moore and Sara Moore; cousins, Tony (Linda) Vesci and Janet (Ray) Taylor; sister-in-law, Doris Wood; brother-in-law, James (Carol) Squires; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

The Humphreys and Moore family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Lukes Hospital with a special thanks to Dr. John Wood for their compassion and care.

Memorial donations in memory of Harold Humphreys may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Eden United Church of Christ, Edwardsville, Ill. and will be accepted at the funeral chapel. www.irwinchapel.com

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 8:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, with Pastor John Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
