James Booker

James Walter Booker, 85, of Belleville, Ill., born July 7, 1928, in Humboldt, Tenn., died Monday, May 12, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville, Ill.

Mr. Booker retired from a career in the United States Air Force in 1967, serving during

the Korean Conflict. He later retired from Sears, Roebuck & Co. in 1983, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1990. He was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral Parish, Belleville, Ill.,was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and Veterans of Foreign Wars; and had been a member of the Belleville Exchange Club since 1990.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas M. and Alice E., nee Cook, Booker; three brothers, Ellis, Henry, and Robert L. Booker; three sisters, Ima Jay Lee, Mary Glisson, and Alma Lowe.

Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Phyllis E., nee Mense, Booker, whom he married on Oct. 5, 1985; two daughters, Charlotte E. Booker of New York City, N.Y., and Cassandra E. (Michael) Johnson of St. Charles, Ill.; a step-daughter, Leslie M. Zotz of St. Louis, Mo.; a step-son, Stephen A. (Susan) Marxer of Centennial, Colo.; a grandson, Noah M. Johnson; a step-grandson, Gregory E. (Hanna) Marxer; two step-great-granddaughters, Haylie and Sophie, and nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral procession will leave at 9:40 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, from the funeral home for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Cathedral, Belleville, Ill.. with Msgr. John Myler officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
