James Johnston Sr.

James J. "Jim" Johnston, Sr., 64, of Millstadt, Ill., born, June 29, 1949, in St. Louis, Mo., passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014.

In 1967, Jim was drafted in the Army and served all over the world for two years. After military service he returned to his job at General Motors in Wentzville, Mo., where he retired after 30 years of service.

During his retirement Jim enjoyed camping with his large family and fishing every chance he had. He enjoyed going to auctions and collected many things including antique fishing lures, tools and model train cars. He was able to devote more time to his passion of gardening. Jim taught his grandchildren how to garden and supplied his whole family with enough vegetables for the summer.

Jim enjoyed talking with people, watching old war movies, and westerns. He made his own fishing lures and taught his grandson how to make his own fishing weights.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Everett and Mildred Rose, nee Slezak, Johnston, his sisters, Cynthia Johnston and Shirley Davis; and his nephew, Dwayne "Bubba" Johnston.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Patsy, nee Joseph, Johnston; his children, Jim (Beth), Shawn and Robin (David) Eastman; his grandchildren, Katie and Joey Johnston, his brothers, Robert (Luann) Johnston, Ricky (Kim) Johnston and Mike (Chong) Johnston. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and cousins.
