James S. Pursell, 75, of Granite City, Ill., born July 20, 1938, in Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at his home.
Jim was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a life member and past commander of American Legion Post 113 in Granite City. He was also a member of AmVets Post 51 for 30 plus years. He retired from Pfizer M. Pim in East St. Louis, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Wilfred S. and Thelma L., nee Davis, Pursell.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Joyce D., nee Hagen, Pursell, whom he married on Sept. 24, 1975, in Granite City, Ill.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason S. and Katy (Joyce) Pursell, and two daughters, Jamie Harrigan and Janna Pursell, all of Granite City.
Jim was the proud grandpa of nine grandchildren. He loved his grandkids very much. Grandsons, Joshua Harrigan, U.S. Marines, stationed in Camp Pendleton, Calif., James and Mason Johnson and Caleb Pursell, granddaughters, Mackenna Harrigan, Ashlyn Cook, Sarynity Johnson and Gemma and Emilyn Pursell; two brothers, Cecil (Janet) Pursell of Troy, Ill., and Donnie (Darlene) Pursell of Collinsville, Ill.; sister, Peggy Gunn of Chatham, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral: Memorial services will be held at a later date at St. John Lutheran Church, 2001 St. Clair Ave., Granite City with Pastor Randy Wilken to officiate.
