John Charles Jr.

John Charles Jr., 88, of O'Fallon, Ill., born Jan. 30, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

John worked as a manager for 45 years for Plumbing Supply Companies. He was a member of Hope Church in Belleville, Ill. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Navy. John served on the USS Maddox DD731. John was a member of the Moose Lodge of Elgin, Ill., No. 799.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary, nee Caputo, Uccellini; four brothers and one sister.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon, nee Voigts, Charles, whom he married on June 19, 1982; children, John (Sue) Charles of New York, Pamela Meyer of Toronto, Calif., Tracy Dahm of Swansea, Ill., David (Cindy) Smith of Bartlett, Ill., Margaret Deluca of New Jersey and Lisa Cody of New York; brother, Donald (Martha) Uccellini of Sheldon, N.Y.; and grandchildren, Matthew, Michelle, Lauren, Garrett, Alex, Jacob, Danielle, Matthew, Michael, Jennifer, Jaclyn, Nicole and Trevor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Church of Belleville or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Condolences may be expressed online at

Visitation: Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Hope Church, 200 Dapron Drive, Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Hope Church with yhr Rev. Jay Krumeich officiating. Private family interment will be held.
