Norvin Lawrence Kreher, 81, of Belleville, Ill., born August 10, 1932, in Paderborn, Ill., died Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at home.
Mr. Kreher retired from Peabody Coal Company after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral Parish, Belleville, Ill., where he served as an usher. A U.S. Army Korean War veteran, Norvin was a member of VFW Millstadt Post 7980.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane M. Carel; his parents, William and Theresa, nee Wachtel, Kreher; a brother, Wilfred Kreher; three sisters, Beda Mae Dammermann, Matilda Kreher, and Angeline Obernuefemann; and two grandchildren, Allison Kreher and Kyle Carel.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 58 years, Elizabeth "Betty", nee Langenhorst, Kreher, whom he married on August 22, 1956; two sons and a daughter, Dale W. (Melinda) Kreher of Omaha, Neb., Deborah A. (Gary) Pierce of Freeburg, Ill. ,and Dean R. (Sue) Kreher of Millstadt, Ill.; a son-in-law, Ken Carel of Belleville, Ill.;12 grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Dillner of Abilene, Kan., Danielle (Joe) Selzle of Gretna, Neb., Jared Kreher of North Platte, Neb. Elizabeth Kreher of Omaha, Neb., Darren (Kristin) Pierce of Freeburg, Ill., Wesley (Amber) Pierce of St. Louis, Mo., Ted Pierce (fiancee, Shannah Korte) of Freeburg, Ill., Lyssa (Hawkin) Tolle of Belleville, Ill., Konnor Carel of Belleville, Ill., Amanda Kreher of O'Fallon, Ill., and Samantha and Jacob Kreher of Millstadt, Ill.; 10 great-grandchildren, Thomas, Michael, and Ethan Dillner, Payton, Cooper, Ben, and Grace Pierce, Lucas and Paige Tolle, and Grace Selzle; three sisters, Clara (Robert) Naumann of Columbia, Ill., Celestine Forbeck of Okawville, Ill., and Mary Ann Albers of Waterloo, Ill.; a brother, Ray (Janet) Kreher of Hecker, Ill.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2014, at St. Peter's Cathedral with Msgr. John Myler officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Ill.
