Peter Franklin Jellen, 86, of Madison, Ill., born on Aug. 12, 1927 in Glen Carbon, IL passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Granite Nursing and Rehab Center.
Mr. Jellen was a World War II veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a carpenter his entire life, Peter was known for his excellent craftsmanship throughout the area. On Feb. 3, 1991, Peter married Norma, the love of his life in Las Vegas, Nev. He was also a member of the Granite City Elks Lodge. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Peter will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Helen, nee Rice, Jellen Sr.; his first wife, Verna Jellen; two brothers, John and Joe Jellen; four sisters, Dorothy Kohlhaus, Petranella Povilot, Albertina Hoffman and June Smith; and one step-daughter, Glenda Ness.
Surviving are his loving wife, Norma G. Jellen of Madison, Ill.; three sons, Steve (Dezi) Jellen, Dale (Joyce) Jellen and Robert (Pamela) Jellen; two daughters, Mary (Frederick) Bailey-Stocker and Susan (David) Schaw; two step-sons, John Crenshaw and Randy (Debbie) Weston; two step-daughters, Deborah Snell and Teresa Hewlett; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Memorials may be given to Unity Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill.
Funeral: In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, Ill., with the Rev. Charles West officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Nameoki Road in Granite City, Ill.
